Attorney General Chris Carr Endorsed by Georgia Fraternal Order of Police

September 18, 2018

ATLANTA – Attorney General Chris Carr today announced that he has earned the endorsement of the Georgia Fraternal Order of Police in the November 6 election.

Carr received overwhelming support from the Fraternal Order of Police, earning between 80 and 85 percent of the votes recommending endorsement in the race.

“I am incredibly honored to have earned this endorsement for the Fraternal Order of Police,” said Carr. “Since I took office in 2016, we have been working together to support one another, to protect all Georgians and to find new and innovative ways to confront modern criminal activities. I’m proud to stand with our officers who are on the front lines.”

In the endorsement letter, which is included below, Jamy Steinberg, President of the Fraternal Order of Police, wrote, “Your dedication to Georgia law enforcement and insuring the safety and security of Georgians and visitors to our State were the litmus tests for our support. Your actions during your turn in office and in your campaign, specifically your words to combat gang activity, address the opioid epidemic, combat sex-trafficking and be a supporter of our noble professions, were what our members want. Your accomplishments, goals and plans as Georgia’s Attorney General have been recognized by our membership, which clearly places you at the top of our list.”

To earn the endorsement of the Fraternal Order of Police, Carr and each candidate completed an in-depth questionnaire regarding law enforcement and role of the office they are seeking.

Other candidates who earned the organization’s support include Brian Kemp for Governor, Geoff Duncan for Lieutenant Governor, Mark Butler for Labor Commissioner, and Jim Beck for Insurance Commissioner.

The Georgia Fraternal Order of Police is made up of 30 local Lodges across the state of Georgia.

Attorney General Carr’s “all-in” approach to help fight crime and protect Georgia citizens has earned widespread support from all levels of law enforcement, along with Carr’s support of those who selflessly serve to protect Georgia citizens.

As Attorney General since November 2016, Carr has continued to help Georgia grow by protecting Georgians from criminals who engage in illegal and harmful activity – from gang activity and elder abuse to cyber crimes and opioid abuse.

Carr created the Statewide Opioid Task Force, which aims to strengthen communications between law enforcement and other organizations to tackle the epidemic that has hit our state. This task force has over 350 members from all over the state and ensures the necessary tools are available to combat this issue in Georgia.

Carr also helped form the Georgia Anti-Gang Network, which aims to strengthen multi-jurisdictional investigations and prosecutions, improve intelligence-sharing capabilities, stop recruitment and increase training effort with the help of state and federal agencies.
